How to replace you Air Conditioning Filter Material.
Below is a video if you would prefer to watch our video on our YouTube channel
Below is a step-by-step guide if you prefer to read instead of watching.
Tools required to complete the replacement: A flat blade screwdriver, A spline roller and a pair of scissors.
- Remove you filter from your air return grill.
- Lay down the filter with the spline side facing up.
- Look for where the beginning and the end of the spline meet in the spline channel.
- Using a pointy screwdriver, pry up the spline out of the spline channel and remove the entire length of the spline.
- Remove the dirty material and dispose.
- Now lay the new filter material that we have supplied over the top of the empty frame making sure that there is enough overhang of material covering the spline channel.
- Insert the start of spline into the spline channel, pushing the material and spline hard into the channel. This is where the use of the screwdriver can help get the spline into the channel.
- Once the start of the spline is pushed into the channel now you can used the spline roller to help push the rest of the spline into the spline channel up to the first corner. make sure that the material isn't creeping sideways when using the spline roller. Any twist in the material at any stage will make the material bow at the end.
- At each corner bend the spline around the corner and with the help of the screwdriver again push the spline into the channel and around the corner.
- Repeat the process until you reach the beginning where you can snip the excess spline and push the end tip into the channel meeting up with the beginning of the spline.
- Make sure all spline is pushed in nicely before using your scissors to neatly trim away any excess/overhanging material.
- Complete. Now once everything looks good and secure, your now able to put back into your air return grill.
I highly recommend watching the video after reading the step-by-step guide above as its a great way of visually understanding the process.
